Winters, Calistoga, Santa Rosa, and Occidental.
Sacramento Valley, Coast Range, and (at ride's end) the Pacific shoreline.
Sacramento: mile 13.5 of the American River Bike Trail, William Pond Recreation Area, Carmichael, CA
Travel to the intersection of Arden Way and Fair
Oaks Blvd in Carmichael, CA (immediately east of Sacramento).
Park in the Five Points
parking lot (SE corner of Arden Way & Fair Oaks Blvd, away from
retail outlets) or on Arden Way, west of restricted parking. Mile 13.5 is at the intersection
of the American River Pkwy Bike Trail and the Arden Way access path.
Bodega Bay: “Pelican Plaza Grocery & Deli” on Highway 1.
This store is in the northern
portion of this tiny town.
Climbing: 6,290 - 6,670 feet.
Difficulty: moderate to marked. The ride is relatively long: allow sufficient time to finish before dark!
Risks: Urban cycling in Santa Rosa. Boat trailers on Highway 128.
The two courses are virtually identical except for different streets passing through the city of Sacramento (exception: see below).
An alternative return from Bodega Bay to Sacramento is offered, which which follows the initial section of the Terrible Two Double Century and which passes through Glen Ellen and Oakville rather than Calistoga.
Climbing: 6,970 feet.
Difficulty: marked.
The climb up Trinity Grade is substantially steeper and more difficult than that in the route through Calistoga.
This alternative route differs from the route in "Sacramento to Bodega Bay" between Santa Rosa and Hwy 128 (Sage Canyon Road).
