Leaving Carmichael you will take the American River Parkway Bike Trail to the Guy West Bridge (photo left) and then bike under the H Street Bridge (photo right).

Navigating through Sacramento and West Sacramento usually is easy.

West of Sacramento cross the Yolo Causeway (photo left) and bike into Davis.

Between Davis and Winters you will bike through flat, rich Yolo County farmland (photo below), which typically grows alfalfa, tomatoes, sunflowers, strawberries, and corn.

After Rest Stop #1 in Winters, you will take Highway 128 past the Montecello Dam and Lake Berryessa (photo left).

Do watch out for wide boat trailers on Hwy 128!

Enjoy Rest Stop # 2 at Moskowite Corner (Note:  the tiny store here isn't always open).

Near the end of Hwy 128 you will bike past Lake Hennessey (photo right).

At the termination of Hwy 128, turn right on the Silverado Trail (photo below).  Enjoy views of the famous wine country as you bike to Calistoga and Rest Stop #3.

Leave Calistoga on Highway 128 and turn left onto Petrified Forest Road.

Franz Valley School Road (photo left) and Franz Valley Road (photo right) are favorites of mine:  densely wooded, quiet, gently up and down.

Do take care (!) to control your speed on Franz Valley Road's curvy descents.

On your right, at the junction of Franz Valley and Porter Creek Roads, is Safari West, a private zoo.

A gradual descent on Mark West Springs Road takes you to a left turn onto Riebli Road.  Bike south into Santa Rosa.

Take great care turning left from Hwy 12 onto Farmers Lane; it can be difficult to navigate across traffic into the left turn lane.

Next enjoy Rest Stop #4 (in, unavoidably, a so-so neighborhood).

This section - from Farmers Lane to Occidental - coincides with the last few miles of the Terrible Two Double Century and is pleasant and easy.

Occidental is a lovely little hamlet; alas, at this point fatigue may limit your ability to appreciate it fully.  Get back into your climbing gears:  you have another 1,330' climb to reach Bodega Bay.  Fortunately, if it isn't foggy, your efforts will be rewarded by fabulous views of the Pacific Ocean as you descend off the crest of Coleman Valley Road (photos below).  Coleman Valley Road is a jewel, one of the most lovely roads in Northern California.

Finally, turn left onto Hwy 1 as the sun gets low:  it's three quick, scenic miles into Bodega Bay (photo below) and ride's end.
