Travel between Sacramento, Marysville, and Chico, with alternative destinations
of Oroville or Paradise.
Remarkably flat and quiet roads along rural farmland in the Northern Sacramento Valley.
The intensity of farming tends to diminish as the route proceeds northward, with lush rice fields and orchards of Sacramento and Sutter counties eventually replaced by largely undeveloped land north of Oroville.
These routes are suitable for a quiet out-and-back
recreational ride.
Sacramento: mile 13.5 of the American River Bike Trail, William Pond Recreation Area, Carmichael, CA
Travel to the intersection of Arden Way and Fair
Oaks Blvd in Carmichael, CA (immediately east of Sacramento).
Park in the Five Points
parking lot (SE corner of Arden Way & Fair Oaks Blvd, away from
retail outlets) or on Arden Way, west of restricted parking. Mile 13.5 is at the intersection
of the American River Pkwy Bike Trail and the Arden Way access path.
Marysville:
Intersection Ramirez Street & E 12th
Street (Hwy 20).
Chico:
Intersection E Park Avenue, Park Avenue, &
Midway.
Alternative destinations:
Oroville (en route).
Paradise (via Skyway from Chico).
Climbing: 385-1,345 feet.
Difficulty: moderate. The routes are impressively flat, but total mileage to Chico is considerable.
Risks: minimal - urban cycling through Marysville and Oroville. The roads are straight, flat, generally good quality, and lightly traveled.
The courses are identical.
Riders must carry their own food and fluids, as neither is available from Sacramento to Marysville, Marysville to Oroville, and Oroville to Chico.
