Travel to the intersection of Arden Way and Fair
Oaks Blvd in Carmichael, CA (immediately east of Sacramento).
Park in the Five Points
parking lot (SE corner of Arden Way & Fair Oaks Blvd, away from
retail outlets) or on Arden Way, west of restricted parking. Mile 13.5 is at the intersection
of the American River Pkwy Bike Trail and the Arden Way access path.
Sonora: Hwy 49 @ intersection S Washington & Stockton Streets, Sonora, CA
This intersection is in the heart of downtown Sonora.
Climbing: 5,070 - 5,190 feet. Although not insignificant in amount, the climbing is not remarkably difficult.
Difficulty: moderate.
Risks: A road shoulder is absent on the first three miles of heavily traveled Hwy 4; thereafter it is fine.
Unlike most of the other Here To There rides, the courses are not identical; either course may be ridden in either direction.
The two courses are identical in the 50 miles closest to Sacramento.
Sacramento to Sonora: the last half (58 miles) passes along isolated roads on the flat Central Valley floor, with a climb to Sonora at the end, visiting the historic towns of Jenny Lind, Copperopolis, Jamestown, and Sonora.
Sonora to Sacramento: the first half (55 miles) passes through Sierra Nevada foothills, visiting the historic towns of Sonora, Columbia, Angels Camp, and San Andreas.
